In praise of the puzzle game that never nags you

Some puzzle games treat every mistake like a failure — timers, limited moves, a red screen when you slip. Others just let you experiment, and those are the ones I keep coming back to.

Garden of Cogs is squarely in the second camp. You build machines, run them, rewind, and adjust until they work. Nothing punishes you for not getting it right the first time, which paradoxically makes the puzzles allowed to be harder.

That design choice changes how you play. Instead of memorizing a solution you feel your way toward one, and the 'aha' hits harder because you earned it through fiddling.

If you find most mobile puzzlers stressful, look for the ones built around free experimentation. They're the ones that stay relaxing even when they're clever.
